MERCY CARE

Mercy Care was initially established in 2016 during the Pope’s Year of Mercy, as a response to support 2 Asylum seekers living in the Parish who had been deprived of the right to work and receive support from Centrelink and Medicare.  An appeal to parishioners to initially contribute $10 for 6 months and make one-off donations was made, with an outstanding response.

Since then, 6-monthly calls for contributions have been made.  A committee of three continue to administer this initiative as there constantly seem to be people needing support even after our initial two asylum seekers have now become self-sufficient.  New members, particularly young adults are encouraged to be part of this group.

Should you wish to contribute to or join Mercy Care, please contact the Parish Office.

New, younger members are encouraged to join.

HOPE ADELAIDE

By collecting cans, bottles and cartons with a 10 cent value, the parish supports a local charity, Hope Adelaide. This charity supports families affected by AIDS in Cambodia and Myanmar, as well as providing AIDS awareness in villages. Cans etc can be left at all our churches at weekend Masses. A roster of parishioners takes them to the recycling depot monthly.

This initiative of the Sisters of Mercy and their collaborators was begun to assist families affected by HIV/AIDS in Cambodia and Myanmar. The parish supports this work by people bringing their 10 cent deposit bottles, cans and cartons to Mass. These are them sorted and taken to the local recycling depot. Couples for Christ and Youth for Christ have taken the responsibility of sorting them. The parish has been supporting Hope Adelaide for about 5 years and raised probably close to $10,000 in an easy and environmentally friendly way at no cost to anyone.
